8th Master — 1st Play (Fol 17r)

Section: Fiore: Dagger

Source Text and Drawing

I am the eighth master and I cross with my dagger. And this play is good in armour and without armour. And my plays are placed some before and some after [me]. The play that is before me, thus the fourth play, thus which strikes the player in the hand with the point of his dagger, I could similarly strike him underhand, as he strikes from above. Also I could grab his hand in the joint with my left hand, and with the right I could well strike, as you will find after me in the ninth play of the ninth master, that strikes the player in the chest. Also I could do the last play that is after me, letting go of my dagger.
