The manuscript of Philippo Vadi’s fencing treatise is held in the Biblioteca Nazionale di Roma, in the Fondo Vittorio Emanuele collection, catalogued as Codice 1324.

It was written between 1482 and 1487. It cannot be earlier than 1482, as it is dedicated to Guidobaldo da Montefeltro as Duke of Urbino, a title he assumed in that year. The upper bound of 1487 comes from the manuscript’s inclusion in the catalogue of the Urbino library, completed in that year.

This manuscript presents a complete system of armoured and unarmoured combat, with a particular emphasis on the use of the longsword.
