— Things (Fol 10r)
Section: Fiore: Dagger
Source Text and Drawing
Why do I hold a dagger in my right hand? I hold it by my art through which I have well earned it. That anyone who strikes at me with a dagger, I take it from their hand. And with that I know well to strike, but that both pros and cons, I know how to finish everything.
By the broken arms that I hold, I wish to declare my art, that this without wishing to lie, in my life I have broken and dislocated a lot. And whoever wishes to place themselves against my art, I always want to use that art.
I am master of opening and also closing, thus the arms of he who wishes to act against me. I will place him in great trouble and struggle in the manner that the locks and breaks are shown. And that is why I hold the keys as a sign, that I am well worthy of that art.
You ask me why I have this man under my feet. That is because I have put thousands there with this technique by the art of wrestling. And for victory I hold the palm branch in my right hand, but I never take a break from wrestling.
