Five Guards of the Dagger

These five figures are the guards of the dagger. And some are good in armour, and some are good without armour, and some are good in armour and without. And some are good in armour and not without armour. And all these we will make clear.

I am the whole iron door and I am simple. And I am good in armour and without. Because I can beat aside and go with a grip and without. And I can play with the dagger and without, and make my covers.

And I am the whole iron door and I am double. And I am good in armour and without. And I am better in armour than without. And with this guard I cannot use a dagger.

And I am the middle iron door and I am double and crossed. And I am good in armour and not without because I cannot make a long cover. And I can cover from above and from below, from the forehand and from the backhand, with a dagger and without.

I am the middle iron door with the dagger in hand, and I am double, and the best and the strongest of all the others. And I am good in armour and without, and can cover from below and from above and all sides.

And I am the whole iron door with the arms crossed and I am double. And I am strong in strength, and in armour I am good and strong. And without armour I am not sufficient because I can not cover long.
