Capoferro: Plate 13

Summary

This is one of the few techniques in Capoferro's system that has a proper name: the Scannatura, or "Slaughtering". This play would seem to belong after plate 15, as the one stringering is on the outside. This technique appears elsewhere too: notably as a counter on plates 14 and 17.

Capoferro's Plate 13 Scannatura

Figure that strikes with a scannatura by a thrust to the right flank with a pass while the adversary disengages to strike.

This manner of attack is called the scannatura, which is done in the following manner, the figure designated as C having the sword of the figure marked as D stringered on the outside. The same figure D disengages a thrust at the face of C, and the same C, meeting the enemy’s sword on the outside33, lowering the point to seconda, and passing with the left leg in one same tempo strikes him in the flank, lowering the hilt with the body and seizing his hand as you see.
